The Chevrolet Impala is a full-size automobile built by the Chevrolet division of General Motors for model years 1958 to 1985, it was later re-introduced from 1994 to 1996, and 2000 to date.
The Impala was named after the South African Antelope and was for a time the best selling family car in America.
It was first introduced in 1958. The 1967 model was the fourth generation of the car. It was changed in 1968 with different bumpers and other details.
Ed Cole, Chevrolet’s chief engineer in the late 1950s, defined the Impala as a “prestige car within the reach of the average American citizen.”
The model in the show is a 4 door hard top sports sedan and is the rarest version of this car. Not only were few produced, but this variant was not in demand for many years, so many were scrapped. The use of the car in the Supernatural series has significantly increased the value.
The car has always been an important part of the Supernatural show. The following an excerpt of the narration from Chuck that features in the episode Swan Song (5.22)
On April 21, 1967, the 100 millionth GM vehicle rolled off the line at the plant in Janesville–a
blue two-door Caprice. There was a big ceremony, speeches, the lieutenant governor even showed up. Three days later, another car rolled off that same line. No one gave two craps about her. But they should have. because that 1967 Chevrolet Impala would turn out to be the most important car–no, the most important object–in pretty much the whole universe.
